AMI Days

EMKS has decided to implement Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) days for any additional weather-related closures during the 2024-2025 school year. This ensures that learning can continue from home when it is unsafe for students to travel to school due to weather but we have already used our allotted snow days for the year.

A student will be marked as “present” on an AMI day if they complete their assignments for the day as defined below.

Middle School (Grades 5-8):

  • Middle school students will be given 3 AMI packets to take home and have on hand to complete if / when we have an AMI day. Students should complete one packet for each AMI day. Please support your student to make sure that packets are not completed before the AMI day so that students have the opportunity to engage in instruction on their day off.
  • On the first in-person school day after an AMI day, students will turn in completed packets (1 per day that we were off school) and they will be graded for thorough completion.
  • If students misplace their packets before an AMI day, copies will be available in front offices and on our website. If completing a packet from the website, either a printed copy of the packet or work completed on a separate sheet of paper will be acceptable.
  • Teachers will be available by phone and email to support students with the work in their packets. All teacher phone numbers are listed in the school directory on the website.

High School (Grades 9-12):

  • High school students will complete work on Google Classroom on their school-issued Chromebooks during the AMI day.
  • Students will be expected to complete and submit these assignments on the AMI day.
  • Teachers will be available by phone and email to support students with their work and/or questions. All teacher phone numbers are listed in the school directory on the website. If you do not get a response from the teacher right away, they will get back to you within the day for support.

Students Who Receive Special Education Services:

As we prepare for the possibility of AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) days, the Special Education Team is committed to providing the highest quality of support for your child. Our approach will ensure that students have access to meaningful instruction and assistance, tailored to their academic needs.

  • For Grades 5–8: Students will receive individualized learning packets aligned with their academic level and goals.
  • For High School: All assignments will be accessible through Google Classroom, with clear instructions and resources to support learning.

How will this work?

  • Your child will complete the assigned work from their packet or Google Classroom. If they have questions or need help, they can contact their teacher directly or request a Zoom session for additional guidance.
  • Please note that while teachers will do their best to accommodate Zoom requests, session times may vary to ensure all students receive the support they need.
  • Learning Support Staff (LSS) may also use breakout rooms during Zoom sessions to provide targeted, individualized assistance. Zoom Rooms and phone numbers for all LSSes are at the bottome of this page.
  • We appreciate your support and partnership as we work together to provide a seamless and effective learning experience for your child, even on AMI days.
